Nassau County Police and Suffolk authorities reported the following major crimes in communities near Plainview:

Huntington Station

A Huntington Station man died after being shot in the head at a local deli Saturday.

Michael Fredericks, 26, died at Huntington Hospital after the shooting at Los Compas Deli, located at 161 Depot Rd. in Huntington Station at about 10:18 p.m., according to police.

Before police arrived at the scene, the victim was transported to the hosptital were he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, according to police.

Robbery Attempt: An attempted armed robbery occurred Sunday at the RIA check cashing store in Huntington Station.

Police say the two men, one armed with a handgun, entered the RIA store at 1357 New York Ave. and demanded cash. The teller, behind bullet proof glass, did not comply and the two men fled south on New York Avenue, according to police.

Massapequa
A woman attempted a burglary on Jan.24 that was similar to the rash of recent deception burglaries in and around Nassau County.

A woman rang the homeowner's doorbell and tried to lure her to the backyard to look at her fence, police said. The homeowner refused and the woman fled.

Sea Cliff
Two teens were arrested and accused of trying to rob youngsters who were skateboarding in Sea Cliff Friday night.

Nassau County Sixth Squad detectives said that Benjamin Molina, 16, of Woodbury and Helder Molina, 18, of Glen Cove demanded money and property from two 13-year-olds who were skateboarding on Sea Cliff Avenue. When one refused, police said, Benajamin Molina punched him in the eye.

Both of the suspects then fled, empty-handed, in a 1995 Toyota.

Police said Helder Molina surrendered to police shortly after 10 p.m. and Benjamin Molina was arrested at his home at 10:30 p.m. Both defendants are charged with second-degree robbery and second-degree assault and were arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Bellmore
A 47-year-old man was robbed Monday night while he was making a delivery for a local Chinese restaurant, police said.

The victim received a minor injury to his finger, police said.

Police said the man was making his delivery around 8:45 p.m. when he was approached by the robber who pulled a brown handgun and demanded money. He then reached into the victim's pocket and removed an undetermined amount of money, police said.

The robber fled on foot, authorities said.

Is Huntington Station really this dangerous, or is it just getting more attention?

Joe,
Take a drive by some Saturday late night on New York Ave in the summer. Will answer your question.

Simba: Is it really that bad. You've see, I've only been there during the daytime, shopping in the vicinity. Not at night. Seemed kind of tame, but I'm from the city originally.

When a young man was shot twice before being killed in the third attack, all the original accusations were that it happened in Huntington Station. Which wasn't true. Huntington Station certainly has its rough spots but when crimes happen elsewhere in town, they are usually seen as one-off events. When they happen in Huntington Station, they are blamed on the neighborhood and all of its residents and cited as proof that the area is crime-ridden. That the cops aren't saying anything about a suspect or a weapon says to me that something else is going on here.
