Free Holiday Concert to Benefit Sandy Victims

Nassau County is offering a free musical opportunity that will serve to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced that the Long Island Philharmonic will present Nassau County’s “Holiday Spectacular” concert on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Butler Building at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Garden City. The two-hour concert will begin at 7 p.m.

Admission is free, but tickets are required. All attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food items which will be collected by Island Harvest and distributed to those affected by the fierce superstorm that caused widespread damage across the region.

Free tickets are available at all Bethpage Federal Credit Union branches, as well as at the Administration Building at Eisenhower Park. Bethpage Federal has offices in Bethpage, Massapequa, Glen Cove, Farmingdale and other locations around Nassau County.

The concert is co-sponsored by Nassau County Parks, and Bethpage Federal Credit Union, with no cost to taxpayers, Mangaon said. 

The Long Island Philharmonic was founded in 1979 by folk singer Harry Chapin in collaboration with Maestro Christopher Keene and several area business leaders. Since then, the orchestra has provided cultural and educational benefits of the highest level to the residents of Long Island and the surrounding boroughs.

Considered young by American orchestra standards, the Philharmonic, led by its four music directors, has made significant strides in expanding its programs and offering a musical product of the highest caliber, Mangano's office said.
