The first weekend of March is upon us, and we’ve come up with things to do for you to enjoy as we get that much closer to Spring. As an alternate to going to New York to see a show and spending a lot of money, Long Island has some terrific community theaters with great talent. One such show to see this weekend is Fiorello! which boasts a lot of local talent. There’s Chris Botti at the Tilles Center, or support the Oyster Bay Polar Bay Plunge. Want to stay indoors, there’s a craft fair or if the weather is nice, go see an early St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
1. Fiorello!

Why Go: Besides the talent, enjoy the Musical by Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, Jerome Weidmand and George Abbott, which is based on the life and career of former New York City Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia, who served terms from 1934-45.

2. Chris Botti – Trumpet Player

Why Go: See Chris Botti, the largest American selling Jazz instrumental artist perform. He background includes four number 1 selling albums.

3. 7th Annual Polar Bear Plunge
When/Where: 99 W End Ave, Oyster Bay, NY 11771 (Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park, Beach, and Waterfront, Sunday March 6, 1 p.m.
Why Go: Support the polar bears as they plunge into the cold waters and help raise funds for United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau. Festivities start at 1pm and THE PLUNGE starts at 2 p.m.

4. Craft Fair

Why Go: Multi craft fair with items including those for Easter, floral arrangements, candles, jewelry, soaps and more.

5. 20th annual Bethpage St. Patrick’s Parade
Where/When: Parade begins at St. Martin of Tours, Central Avenue. Bethpage, Sunday March 6, @ 1 p.m.
Why Go: Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano is grand marshal and participants include Civil War re-enactors and K-9 brigade. Starts at St. Martin of Tours Church, goes down Stewart Ave. and up to Broadway, viewing stand on Broadway at Washington Street.
