Nanny Due in Court Aug.24

Plainview woman suspected of using drug on child will have hearing.

Anneliese Brucato, 48, of Plainview, accused of felony assault after police said she gave an antihistamine to a 4-month-old girl in her care, is due in court Aug.24.

Nassau County police said that the girl’s mother, using a video feed known as a nanny cam, spotted her feeding the drug to her daughter. Police said they suspect that she was using the antihistamine to keep the child sedated.

"The video shows the nanny standing over the girl at a changing table," Nassau County police Det. Lt. Kevin Smith said. "At one point, (the suspect) reaches up for the dropper and then reaches into her pants pocket for another bottle and gives the child a substance in the mouth."

Alarmed by what she had just witnessed, the child's mother raced home and confronted Brucato, Smith said. After initially denying any wrongdoing, Brucato admitted giving the child the antihistamine, he said. The mother ordered Brucato out of the house and contacted police.

Brucato is scheduled for a hearing in Nassau County First District Court.
