Vacant in Plainview: Old Gas Station

Tell us what you'd want to see on the vacant property.

We all know Plainview doesn't have a real downtown business district and, unlike many area communities, few of the storefronts in Plainview's many strip malls are vacant. Still there are some.

Over the next few months, Patch will spotlight these vacant properties to foster discussion in the community on what can, should and could be done to rehab these abandoned spots.

This week's property is the former Exxon gas station at the corner of Woodbury and South Oyster Bay Roads. It is next to the Plainview Shopping Centre, and has been shuttered for about a year now.

The listing agent is Welco Realty, Inc., of New Rochelle, which manages the Plainview Centre. The property at that corner is listed as up to 4,000 square feet. No lease price is listed.

What woud you like to see there? Another specialty market? Something else?

How about a new police precint? Just kidding....Please not another bank, yogurt store or drive through fast food place. Plainview does not have a pet store....what about a family fun restuarant sort of like a mini Chuck E Cheese?

Have the tanks been removed? I'm wondering what the environmental impact report says. Maybe that's why this property sits untouched.

Debbie: It might be just the right size for a "community policing station."
Jason: Good point. That may be the hold-up. That corner it part of the property owned by the company that runs the Plainview Centre. That's whose offering to lease it.
