JFK Hosts Two Performances of a "Night of A Cappella"

TODAY's 5: Talented Plainview singing groups show off their talents tonight.

The weekend has arrived and summer seems around the corner. There is music in the air in Plainview, as well: Today's 5: 1. There are two shows tonight at Plainview JFK featuring the amazing talents of Plainview singing clubs. It's a "Night of A Capella." Friday: Performances at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. 2. The Plainview Jewish Center hosts its "Shabbat Alive" Musical Service featuring their Klezmer Band at Friday night's service. 7 p.m.; open to the public with reception to follow. 3. Beginning today, music will fill the air in and around Plainview. The options over the next two days are varied and wonderful: For example: Today's 5: 1. Howard B. Mattlin Middle School holds its spring concert tonight at 7 p.m. It's free and open to all. 2. Meanwhile, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School hosts its spring concert tonight, also at 7. Holy Trinity Honors Arts Students

36 students inducted in National Art Honor Society.

Holy Trinity Diocesan High School inducted 36 students into the National Art Honor Society on April 16. The four teachers in Holy Trinity’s Art department cover skills such as drawing, painting, advertising, fashion design, ceramics, architecture and graphic design, including a college drawing course that will earn students 3 college credits. The National Art Education Association began the National Art Honor Society in 1978 to inspire and recognizi those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art. The NAHS strives to aid members in working toward the attainment of the highest standards in art areas, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community. These were the big news story of the past week in Plainview Patch: 1. Burger King: The restaurant near the Plainview diner suddenly closed up operations last Sunday. It is still not clear what happened. 2. Burglaries Down: The surrounding area had a few, but Plainview once again was spared this past week. The trend seems to be continuing. 3. Austin Harris: A young man gave a gift to his lost friend this week, a touching story of how Austin Harris still cares for Spencer Reis. 4. Seal Appears: A grey seal made an appearance on Tobay Beach this week. 5. Local Musicals: It was a big week in Plainview for classic musicals, with Plainview's Drama Cadets presenting "How to Succeed..." and Mattlin producing "Bye Bye Birdie."

Members of the Plainview Little League will be in attendance at Thursday's Plainview baseball game to honor the memory of Joseph Sadowski. MSG Varsity is broadcasting the game against Hicksville, which is Plainview Little League Day. The event will honor Joseph, who died at 13 last month after battling leukemia. Plainview Burger King Closes Doors

TODAY's 5: Local institution shuts down Sunday. Cause unclear at the moment.

One of Plainview's two Burger King restaurants, a Plainview fast-food institution on our eastern side of Old Country Road, shut its doors Sunday. The Burger King at 1082 Old Country Road near the Plainview Diner was open Saturday but closed on Sunday. A sign on the door made mention of an issue with its lease.
