PLAINVIEW TO HOST 9TH ANNUAL HEART & SOLE 5 KILOMETER

RUN THIS SUNDAY, JULY 21ST

This  Sunday morning, July 21st,  a very special event will take place on the roads of Plainview -- the 10th anniversary Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run – and the host Greater Long Island Running Club is asking for the cooperation of local residents to help make the Run successful and safe.

The Club will be staging the Run on behalf of the Plainview and Syosset Hospitals of North Shore - Long Island Jewish Health System  This year’s Run is in honor of the memory of Dr. Gary Rachlin, and to support the grant established in Dr. Rachlin’s name to help fund family medicine research, scholarly activities and community outreach programs.

The Run wis expected to attract more than 400 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes, and local residents are urged to avoid driving along the course while the runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes are passing through.  The Run will start at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School at exactly 8:30 AM on Sunday, and the last participant will cross the finish line back at the School no later than 9:15 AM although most of the streets along the route will be clear long before then.

“We hope that as many of our neighbors as possible will be on hand to cheer the participants along their way,” stated Club President Mike Polansky, himself a long time resident of Plainview.  “There will be lots of folks doing a 5 kilometer run for the first time, and they will need all the help and encouragement they can get!  This is a great opportunity to show athletes from all over Long Island what a friendly community Plainview is.”

It’s not too late to sign up to be a part of the Run.  Just call Mike or Linda at the Club office at (516) 349-7646 or you can sign up online at www.glirc.org.  Local residents with any questions about the Run can call that same number for information.
