Crime Report: Assault, DWAI, Stabbing

The Plainview Patch reports recent local crimes.

The following crime reports were produced by the 2nd Precinct of the Nassau County Police Department: 

  • On Feb. 16, The Homicide Squad reports the details of an arrest in Plainview for an assault. According to detectives, the defendant , 24 of 38 Acorn Drive, E. Northport was driving a 2002 Nissan Altima when he was involved in leaving the scene of multiple accidents with numerous vehicles. The first accident occurred about 11 a.m. eastbound on Old Country Road in Hicksville striking one vehicle. The defendant continued onto the Wantagh Parkway northbound and entered the Northern State Parkway eastbound where he struck five additional vehicles. A Nassau County Police highway officer approached the vehicle on foot. The defendant placed his car in reverse, forcing the officer to take evasive action. The defendant’s vehicle then struck the Nassau County Police unit and continued eastbound on the Parkway. Schwert then struck three additional vehicles before stopping and fleeing on foot. A New York State Trooper was able to arrest the defendant a short distance away near exit 36. The defendant is being charged with one count of Assault -2nd degree, seven counts reckless endangerment – 1st degree, three counts of criminal possession of stolen property, two counts of criminal mischief, seven counts of hypodermic instrument, two counts of leaving the scene of accident with personal injury, one count of leaving the scene, and driving while ability impaired on drugs. He will be arraigned on Thursday Feb. 17, at First District Court in Hempstead.
  • On Feb. 14, The Second Precinct reported an arrest of Sumaya Sahebzada, 20, at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville, charged with petit larceny.
  • On Feb. 13, The Second Precinct reported an arrest of Patrick Tomaiolo, 36, on S. Oyster Bay Road in Hicksville, charged withr Criminal Mischief.
  • On Feb. 11, The Nassau County Police Department reports a fatal car crash. According to detectives Akash James 18, of 38 Charles Street, Floral Park was operating a 2002 Toyota Highlander Eastbound on the South Service Road when his vehicle struck the rear of a 2003 Volvo tractor-trailer. The truck is registered to the United States Postal Service was stopped at the intersection of North Broadway and the South Service Road for a red traffic signal. James was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. There is no apparent criminality and the investigation is ongoing.
  • On Feb. 9, The Second Precinct reported an arrest of Daron Lockhart, 23, on 495 in Plainview, charged with reckless driving.  
  • On Feb. 7, The Second Precinct reported that on Sackett Street in Hicksville a burglary, a bank vault/birth certificate and a safe were stolen.
  • On Feb. 6, The Second Precinct reported a tire was stolen from an automobile at Platinum Volkswagen in Hicksville.
  • On Feb. 3, The Second Precinct reported a burglary on Executive Drive in Plainview where copper piping was stolen.
  • On Feb. 3, The Second Precinct reports at 7-Eleven a store window broken in Hicksville.
  • On Jan. 31, The Second Precinct reports Petit Larceny on W. Ames Court in Plainview; a license plate was stolen from an automobile.
  • On Jan. 28, The Second Precinct reports a robbery at the Burns Avenue School in Hicksville. The victim was stabbed and had a wallet taken.
  • On Jan. 25, The Second Precinct reports a grand larceny on Island Street in Plainview where an automobile was stolen.
