PLAINVIEW SYNOGOGUE, YOUNG ISRAEL OF PLAINVIEW and THE PLAINVIEW DIVISION OF THE HEBREW ACADEMY OF NASSAU COUNTY TO SPONSOR A CHANUKAH LIGHTING CELEBRATION OF A SIX FOOT MENORAH WITH SONGS AND GOODIES AT FAIRWAY MARKET IN PLAINVIEW ON
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2011 AT 4:30 PM
The community is welcome to join in a Chanukah Menorah and Lighting Celebration with traditional holiday songs, latkes and goody bags for the children in Fairway Plainview (50 Manetto Hill Road) on Thursday, December 22, 2011 starting at 4:30 pm. The event is sponsored by the Plainview Synogogue, the Young Israel of Plainview and the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County (Plainview Division) and Rabbis Binyamin Baras, Kalman Fogel and Elie Weissman from these organizations respectively, will be in attendance along with Rabbi Abraham Marmorstein, who oversees kosher supervision in all Fairway stores and Rabbi Brian Thau, who supervises kosher foods for Plainview Fairway. They will lead the blessing of the candles. A chorus of more than 40 children from the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County will entertain with classic Chanukah songs. The lighting of the six foot menorah will mark the third night of the Festival of Lights, which commemorates the rededication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem following the Jewish revolt and victory over the Syrian-Greeks in 165 B.C.E and the miracle of the oil lasting eight days.
