Family Weekend Planner

The weekend is offering a variety of music festivals as well as a Polish festival to help you enjoy the final weeks of summer.

1.      Concert: Marshall Tucker Bank and Kansas

Where/When: Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater of Eisenhower Park,  1899 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, 516-572-0355,  Friday, August 19 @ 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: See a live performance of the Marshall Tucker Band and Kansas

Pricing: Free

2.      Polish Town Street Fair and Polka Festival

Where/When: Pulaski Street, (Lincoln and Osborn Avenues)  Riverhead, 631-369-1616,  Saturday & Sunday August 20 & 21 @ 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Why Go: Over 250 stands which will feature Polish food, arts and crafts, polka bands and a re-enactment of an old fashioned Polish wedding. Dance festival in Polonaise Park will include bands, dance groups and dancing.

Pricing: Fair is free, dance festival $13.00

3.      A Grand Night for Singing

Where/When: Hofstra University, Helene Fortunoff  Theater, 1000 Fulton Ave., Hempstead, 516-463-6644,  Friday and Saturday, August 19 & 20 @ 8 p.m., Sunday @ 3 p.m.

Why Go: Hear the revue showcasing the music of Richard Rodgers and the lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein

Pricing: $28, 23 seniors, $18 students,

4.      Elvis Tribute Spectacular

Where/When: NYCB Theatre at Westbury, 960 Brush Hollow Rd., Westbury, 800-745-3000, livenation.com, Friday August 19 @ 8 p.m.

Why Go: Hear performances by Shawn Klush, Donny Edwards, Rick Virga and more in a tribute to Elvis

Pricing: $52.50, $62.95.

5.      Long Island Bluegrass Festival

Where/When: Tanner Park, Kerrigan Rd, Copiague, 631-587-3696, Saturday August 20 @ noon to 8 p.m.

Why Go: Workshops, children’s activities, food court and craft venders and feature performances by Special Consensus, Buddy Merriam and others.

Stop means stop. Just like stop signs, where it seems like the local definition is to slow down toRead More 30 mph. You STOP, and look. Then go. I have seen kids having a tough time crossing Jamaica Ave because of this twisted definition of STOP. If anything, this is a good way to relearn what should of been taught in drivers ed. When I moved to Plainview, people at a stop sign would signal the driver that got there first to go. Now it's a race to the stop sign and fly by it to avoid having the other guy go first.
