Extended kids weekend planner

We're approaching the Independence Day weekend and we’ve come up with some ideas for the kids to help celebrate

1.       Go Fly A Kite

Where/When: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., Garden City, New York, 516-224-5800, licm.org., Sunday July 3 @ 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Why Go: Take the children to learn how to construct a kite, for children of all ages.

2.       Family Science Activity: Sink or Float?

Where/When: Maritime Explorium, 101 East Broadway, Port Jefferson, 631-331-3277, maritimeexplorium.org., Saturday and Sunday, July 2 & 3 @ 1-5 p.m.

Why Go: Children of all ages can learn how and why different objects sink or float, museum exhibits experiments and games also available.

Pricing: $5.

  3.       Family Fun Day

Where/When: Belmont Park Race Track, 2150 Hempstead Tpke., Elmont, 516-488-6000, www.nyra.com, Sunday July 3 @ noon- 4 p.m.

Why Go: Carnival games, a petting zoo, face painting and more, held in Belmont’s picnic area

Pricing: Free, except for pony rides which cost $1.

4.       Independence Day Celebration, 4th of July at Sagamore Hill

Where/When: Theodore Roosevelt’s House, 20 Sagamore Hill Road Oyster Bay, NY, : 516-922-4788, Monday July 4th @ 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Why Go: Independence Day was an important holiday for Theodore Roosevelt, who often spoke at the festivities in Oyster Bay and gathered his extended family and friends at Sagamore Hill for a day of celebration. The National Park Service and the Friends of Sagamore Hill invite you to bring your family and friends and dress in your patriotic attire to join in the day of festivities.

5.       Celebrate 4th of July Story Time

Where/When: Barnes & Noble, 91 Old Country Road. Carle Place, 516-741-9850,  Tuesday July 5 @ 11 a.m.

Why Go: Celebrate the 4th of July with stories related to the 4th. Have children dress in red, white and blue.
