Plainview Resident Honored For World War II Service

WWII veteran Julius Intraub is honored by Plainview's Atria Senior Living.

A longtime Plainview resident who served his country in World War II was recently honored for his service at Plainview's Atria Assisted Living.

Julius Intraub, who recently celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary to his wife, Irma, received a wall plaque commemorating his military service.

Intraub served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, attached to the Signal Corps. He was sent to Germany, but when the Battle of the Bulge broke out in late 1944, he was diverted to England.

His unit was eventually deployed to establish communications lines through France and Germany as the allies advanced on Berlin.

When Berlin fell, he was shipped to the Pacific Theater of Operations and served both in the Philippines and Japan.

He married Irma, his childhood sweetheart, after the war.
