Second Stop Sign Added at Dangerous Plainview Intersection

As an extra precaution, a second stop sign will be added at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Orchard Street.

A dangerous Plainview intersection is getting a new stop sign.

The Town of Oyster Bay will install a new stop sign at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Orchard Street in the community's west end. The issue was decided at the Town Board meeting Tuesday night.

A Plainview resident addressed the board, recalling horrific memories of accidents there in the past.

"People are blowing the stop sign, and it's becoming very dangerous," the unidentified resident said. "A second stop sign will only increase our chances of safety."

Nassau County Police said they couldn't provide specifics about recent accidents at the intersection.

The existing stop signs are on Orchard Street, both north and south of Virginia. The new signs will be on Virginia Avenue.

Town Supervisor John Venditto and the board voted to install the additional stop signs at the intersection. The town expects to put up the sign in the next few days.
