Two Major Religious Holidays This Week

Holy Week has begun for Christians; Passover begins at sundown Monday.

Two major religious holidays will be in focus during the coming week.

For Christians across Plainview and the world, Holy Week began Sunday with Palm Sunday, the commemoration of Jesus' triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. The week continues with Holy (or Maundy) Thursday observances of "The Last Supper," Good Friday, the solemn remembrance of the Crucifixion, and culminates with Easter Sunday, the day of the New Testament Resurrection.

For Jews across Plainview and the world, Passover begins at sundown Monday night. The celebration commemorates the Jews' escape from bondage in Egypt, as recorded in Exodus. It is marked with special meals and services. The holiday continues until April 2.

Some businesses are impacted by the holidays. Some will close early for Passover and Good Friday, respectively. Most businesses remain open on Easter Sunday, but often on reduced holiday schedules.
