VIDEO: Snow in October? Get Ready

The NWS says a winter-style storm will hit the Hudson Valley Saturday and could strike a glancing blow on Long Island; Trio Hardware in Plainview is ready.

The National Weather Service says a winter storm could clobber the Hudson Valley and parts of New England Saturday and get here overnight to leave us with a ghoulish white Halloween weekend.

Plainview and parts of northern Nassau County could feel a glancing blow of a storm that could leave Upstate New York with more than 6-inches of heavy wet snow, the NWS says. With some leaves still on trees, widespread power outages are anticipated north of New York City from falling limbs.

For Long Island, Saturday afternoon is expected to be cold and nasty: windy with up to an inch of rainfall accompanied by near-gale-force gusts.

Then, rain and snow could mix Saturday night and turn into all snow overnight into Sunday, leaving accumulations in parts of our region of 2-4 inches of wet snow. Sunday is expected to be sunny and warmer, the NWS says.
