John Owens, author of "Confessions of a Bad Teacher: The Shocking Truth
from the Front Lines of American Public Education," will speak at the
Book Revue in Huntington Tuesday.
Owens, who left a career in publishing to
teach at a public school in the Bronx, told USA Today last week,
"America has become so obsessed with test scores and other data that we
believe we should focus only on academic subjects and "cut the fat."
That's made so many schools just test-prep factories that are nothing
like the public schools most of us attended."
His talk and book signing are scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Book Review, 313 New York Ave., Huntington.
