Federal Shutdown Averted: Celebrate With Sounds of Doo Wop

You can attend a "High Tea" at St. Margaret's this afternoon, or take in a show tonight.

Late Friday night, The White House and Congressional leaders reached a budget deal that will keep the government functioning. The temporary package, that is expected to be adopted as law next week, keeps the National Parks on Long Island open, including and Teddy Roosevelt's Oyster Bay home.

1. The sounds of street corners a half century ago comes back to the area Saturday night when Oyster Bay High School presents a "Doo Wop" fundraiser. The concert, running from 7-11 p.m., features Emil Stuccio and the Classics, Jimmy Gallagher and the Passions, John Kuse and the Excellents and Joe Favale and the Emotions. The event raises money for Oyster Bay High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets: $45.

2. This opportunity doesn't come around that often this far west of London: You can attend a "High Tea" Saturday at , from 3-6 p.m. Bring along a daughter or spouse with your favorite tea cup to the church's 8th annual High Tea event. Wear a "spring" hat and be eligible for prize. Raffles and crafts, too. Cost: $18.

3. The  , presents the American composer William Finn's autobiographical musical "A New Brain." The 1998 musical, which opened off Broadway to critical success, is one man's story about conquering his fear of dying with his greatest songs still unwritten. While stuck writing stories for children's TV, a brain injury puts his life in perspective. Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets: $20.

4. Department of Theatre and Dance presents its spring dance concert Saturday at 8 p.m. The program consists of original modern dance pieces choreographed by Prof. Stanley Berke. Price: $9; $7 for seniors and children under 18.
