Forecast: Hot, Humid and Hockey

Get ready for summer league hockey; registration begins next week.

It's Wednesday June 1, the beginning of the month with the Northern Hemisphere's longest day. Today is expected to be hot and humid with thunderstorms possible. Given the weather, let's talk some hockey:

1. In one week, begins for summer hockey at Bethpage Community Park. Registration is June 7 and 8 from 6-9 p.m. for kids ages 7-13. Space limited, first come, first served. That gives Plainview-area parents a week to find a copy of the child's birth certificate and proof of TOB residency (must-bring items.) The season runs from July 7 to mid-August. Participants must bring their own equipment. A check or money order is needed: Price: $95 one child, $120 for two or more.

2.  holds its regular Bible Study classes Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.  Free to all; beginners welcome.

3. is holding an open house daily this week from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. It's an opportunity for family members to look into joining the synagogue this year or offering their children a Jewish education. Prospective members can stop by any weekday for a tour, to meet the clergy and professional staff and pick up a membership packets.

4. A new exhibit at the features more than 50 photos of photographer The event runs daily through Sept. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. And, the museum is screening six films in collaboration with the. All six films complement the Avedon exhibit. For a complete listing of these films, click here.
