Good Deeds, Good Music at Good Shepherd

Benefit concert in Plainview collects donations for some of Long Island's neediest.

An evening of music and caring for others brought about 150 people to  in Plainview Thursday evening.

The church played host to a free blues and rock on the church lawn, an outdoor auditorium framed on two sides by its school and the other two by a dusky Plainview sky.

The Good Shepherd's pastor, and the church community organized the event to benefit the pantry at the New Life Center in Uniondale. The crowd not only brought bags filled with non-perishable items for the food pantry, but opened their wallets with significant cash donations, Pastor Olsen said.

The crowd was entertained by the Long Island based rock and blues band RippTide, its five members donating their talents for the cause. Olsen has been a long-time friend with bass player Mike Levy. Both are affiliated with the New Hyde Park Volunteer Fire Department.

Richard, I agree. This road has so many potholes that were fixed, it dips and the county trees haveRead More lifted it up in areas that now hold water. I have ben living here for over 30 years, and I cannot recall it ever being done. It needs to be done soon, I so agree with you. Maybe Mangano will see this and do something, then again if we lived in Bethpage, it would of been done already.
