Grab and Go April 15-17

Kids weekend planner.

An egg hunt for Easter, a bread hunt for Passover and entertainment at the Plainview library are just some of the choices for you and your kids this weekend. And, because this weekend begins spring break for most schools on Long Island, we’ve included things to do during the week to help keep the kids busy.

1.      Eggstravaganza

Where/When: Marjorie Post-Massapequa Community Park, Unqua and Merrick Roads, Massapequa, 516-624-6381, http://www.oysterbaytown.com, Saturday, April 16 @ 1-4 p.m.

Why Go: Get ready for Easter as families can participate in an egghunt, petting zoo, spring crafts and games as well as pictures with the Easter bunny.  This will be held rain or shine.

2.      Bread Hunt

Where/When: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., East Garden City , 516-224-5800, http://licm.org. Sunday April 17 @ 1- 3 p.m.

Why Go: This pre-Passover event children can learn the tradition of cleaning out your home of all bread and make a mini loaf model to hide at home for your own bread hunt. All ages welcome, bread hunt is at 3 p.m. in the It’s Alive gallery.

Pricing:  Free with museum admission

3.      A Flock of Button Birds

Where/When: , 999 Old Country Rd., Plainview, 516 -938-0077,    Saturday April 16 @ 11 a.m.

Why go: Children ages 3-5 with an accompanying adult, can enjoy listening to “Basil’s birds” and other Spring themed stories.  Afterwards they will work together to create a picture of a flock of “button birds” with little children watching nearby. Registration required.

4.      Spring Break: No School, That’s Cool

Where/When: Paint a Face, 6126 Jericho Tpke., Commack, 631-486-6969, http://paintapiecepottery.com., Monday through Friday April 18-April 22 @ 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Why Go: Children ages 5 and up will create a pottery project with mother’s day in mind, includes lunch and a craft. Register, deposit required.

Pricing: $30 plus tax

5.      Live Animal Presentation

Where/When: Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium, 1660 rt. 25A, Cold Spring Harbor, 516-692-6768, http://cshfha.org., Wednesday-Friday April 19-21 @ 11 a.m & 3:30 p.m.

Why Go: Learn about different animals during each presentation, Tuesday- Fish, Wednesday -turtles, Thursday- amphibians.

Pricing: $6 adults, $4 children
