Old Bethpage Artist Showcasing Suburban-Inspired Art

Lisa Petker Mintz' exhibit is on display at Mills Pond House Gallery this month.

Old Bethpage resident Lisa Petker Mintz is showcasing her artwork at the Mills Pond House Gallery in St. James this month.

The exhibit, "Mum's the World: Mothers, Flowers and Secrets" opened on Oct. 6 and runs through Nov. 3

Mintz said the inspiration for her art came from dealing with issues living in suburbia.

"The new work their is also about Suburbia but I have found peace here in the new Borella Fields playground [in Plainview]. It is about all that is right in Suburbia, which for me, is raising my children here," she said.

The exhibit is being sponsored by the Smithtown Township Arts Council and features over 30 local artists.

On opening night, New York painter and event juror, Hilary Harkness, awarded Queens native Alice Denison first place for her work entitled "Most Sublime Universe".

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 12-4 p.m. on weekends. The presentation will end on Nov. 3.

Richard, I agree. This road has so many potholes that were fixed, it dips and the county trees haveRead More lifted it up in areas that now hold water. I have ben living here for over 30 years, and I cannot recall it ever being done. It needs to be done soon, I so agree with you. Maybe Mangano will see this and do something, then again if we lived in Bethpage, it would of been done already.
