"Shower Singers" Bring Joyful Music to Seniors

Atria's traveling singing club, ranging in age from 82-94, perform at Y JCC

The Shower Singers Sunshine Club performed at the Mid-Island Y JCC recently, spreading sunshine with their voices and smiles.

The singers, who range from 82 to 94 years of age, are residents of Atria Senior Living of Plainview and are a travelling, volunteer singing group whose mission is to help encourage seniors in and around the community.

"I couldn't be more proud of them," said Atria Engage Life Program Director, Barbara Heaphy. "Their message is simple: keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart."

The Shower Singers Sunshine Club is available to perform at other community organizations.

"Music lifts us up and gives us hope to carry on. And a smile is one of the most contagious and valuable things we have to share - and it doesn't cost anything," Heaphy said.
