Town Announces Free December 'Distinguished Artists' Concerts

Four free concerts scheduled for Oyster Bay's libraries in December.

The Town of Oyster Bay 2013-2014 Distinguished Artists Concert series continues in December with a multitude of performances at various local libraries.

“This program which is one of the town’s most popular, runs through May 2014 and features performances by a diverse collection of musical acts and dance programs,” said Councilman Joe Muscarella.

There are four performances scheduled in December: They are:

  • Sunday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m.: The Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library hosts a performance by the Blue Spruce Cloggers, featuring a program of clog, tap and Irish step dance to blue grass, old-time, country and pop music.
  • Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m.: The Bethpage Public Library, 47 Powell Ave., in Bethpage, hosts the Home Grown String Band. The group entertains families with acoustic country music and Appalachian flatfoot dancing.
  • Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m.: Beatles fans will get to spend an evening reliving the music and stories that defined a generation with the performance of ‘In My Life: The John Lennon Tribute.’ The event is set for the Hicksville Public Library, located at 169 Jerusalem Ave. in Hicksville.
  • Sunday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m.: The Cold Spring Harbor Band present ‘A Tribute to the Music of Billy Joel,’ featuring a musical journey through the songs of Billy Joel’s first album, accompanied by a photo slide show. This performance will take place at the Farmingdale Public Library, located at 116 Merritts Road in Farmingdale.

The “Distinguished Artists” concert series is sponsored by the Cultural and Performing Arts (CAPA) Division of the Town of Oyster Bay’s Department of Community & Youth Services. Anyone looking for more information should call 797-7900.
