Free Jazz at Plainview Library This Weekend

There are five free 'Distinguished Artists' performances at nearby libraries in March.

Beginning this weekend, an evening of opera and traditional group dance are some of the highlights from the Town of Oyster Bay's upcoming slate of “Distinguished Artists” concerts series set for March.

“The Town’s ‘Distinguished Artists’ concert series, sponsored each year by the Cultural and Performing Arts Division (CAPA) of the Department of Community and Youth Services, represent an opportunity for residents to enjoy diverse, free musical performances, held throughout the year, at local libraries,” Town Councilwoman Rebecca Alesia said.

There are five free performances in March:

Saturday, March 2. Manhattan Opera Association, at 8 p.m. at the Plainview Old-Bethpage Public Library, Old Country Road, Plainview.

Sunday, March 3: Classic Indian forms and Kuchipudi provided by the Nritya Saagaram Dance Academy; 2 p.m., at the Hicksville Public Library, 169 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville.

Saturday, March 9: Manhattan Jazz, a night of cabaret and swing; 8 p.m., at the Syosset Public Library, 225 South Oyster Bay Road, Syosset.

Sunday, March 10, Naomi Zeitlin presents "Divas of our Time."; 2 p.m., Bethpage Public Library, 47 Powell Ave., Bethpage.

Sunday, March 17: Rhonda Denet, singing classics from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s; 2 p.m., Locust Valley Public Library, 170 Buckram Road, Locust Valley.

Alesia said the “Distinguished Artists” concert series is sponsored by the Cultural and Performing Arts (CAPA) Division of the Town of Oyster Bay’s Department of Community & Youth Services. Anyone interested in obtaining a schedule of free concerts should call 797-7900.
