Writers to Showcase Work at Y-JCC

Authors Breakfast Series premiers later this month in Plainview.

By Genna Apfel

This April, the Mid-Island Y JCC, a member of the Jewish Book Council, presents the Authors Breakfast Series.

Emerging and established writers will be presenting their latest works and novels with the public. Audiences will have a chance to take part in these discussions. The public will have the opportunity to ask questions and also have their books signed.

The first guest speaker is Joy Ladin, who is the first transgender professor at Yeshiva University. Ladin is also a David and Ruth Gottesman Professor of English at Stern College for Women and an accomplished poet.

“Through the Door of Life,” is Ladin’s memoir, which recollects her experiences in her gender transition, life as a Jewish woman, as well as the spiritual and philosophical questions raised by her situation.

The presentation will be April 21 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Y JCC, 45 Manetto Hill Road in Plainview.

A fee of $18 will be charged to members of the Mid-Island Y JCC and non-members will be charged $25. A light breakfast will be served and pre-registration is required.

To purchase tickets or for more information, visit Beverly Gilbert at (516) 822-3535, extension 347 or going to bgilbert@miyyjcc.org.
