UPDATE: Power Outage Impacts POB Middle School

Power back on at school; phone service district-wide had been disrupted.

More than 200 LIPA customers in Plainview lost power Thursday morning in the vicinity of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School.

The outage was reported in the area of the middle school at Central Park Road and Ruby Lane. LIPA and the school district says power to the school has been restored. 

The district's communications hub, located at POB Middle School, was impacted by the outage. The phone system district-wide was not able to accept any incoming phone calls, district officials said.

Principal John McNamara sent this email alert to parents Thursday:

"Today at POBMS we had a partial power outage for a little over an hour. All of our instructional spaces had enough light to continue classes. Some of our hallways did not have full power, but had emergency lighting. During passing time we dismissed students by grade to limit student traffic in the hallways and had additional staff on hand in those areas."

McNamara continued:
