Turf Field Not Ready Yet; Games Moved to Middle School

Progress continues; hopes continue that field will be ready soon.

While progress continues to be made on Plainview's new turf athletic field, the new facility won't be ready to play on for a few weeks.

Plainview officials said games scheduled through most of next week will be moved the football field at Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School, including Thursday's home football opener against Farmingdale. That game in now scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday.

Also being moved to that venue are two Girls Varsity Soccer games, one against Seaford on Sept. 16 at 4:15 p.m and another against Oyster Bay on Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m.

School officials and football boosters said the new artificial turf has arrived and LIPA has made progress on installing a transformer needed to power the lighting system. The company installing the field said they are hopeful it will be ready by Sept. 20.

The Town of Oyster Bay has funded the vast majority of the project at Plainview JFK High School.

The matter was discussed at Monday night's school board meeting. Patch will have a report later.
