New 'Spider-Man' to be Filmed at Grumman

Thousands of local extras needed; film could generate millions for Plainview-Bethpage area.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” will be filmed in part at Bethpage and will need thousands of local extras.

In the process, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office says the Spider-Man sequel will be the largest movie production to be filmed in New York and could result in 3,500 jobs and the casting of 11,000 extras. The production will include massive sets to be constructed at three facilities in Long Island and Brooklyn and generate millions of dollars in revenue to the local economy.

Scenes will be shot both upstate and downstate and require some 11,000 extras. The movie is due out in 2014.

The huge production needs big spaces and Bethpage has it.

Grumman Studios & Gold Coast Studios,in Bethpage, located in giant hangers once used by the aerospace giant, will play host to legions of actors, production assistants and technical experts. Some of the film will be shot at the Marcy Armory in Brooklyn. The production expects to shoot for 150 days, including 50 days in Bethpage and 10-15 days in Rochester.

“There is no better place to film the next adventure of Peter Parker than right here in the Empire State,” Cuomo said in a statement. "This production will also help generate new jobs and economic activity both upstate and downstate which is great news for our local communities and fans of the franchise.”

This is the first time an entire Spider-Man production will be shot in New York, said Gary Martin, president, production administration of Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group. "Plain and simple, this is a win-win for the state and our production.”

The production expects to require 3,500 new hires, one-third of whom will be from Long Island, and 11,000 extras, including several thousand from Long Island.

Filming “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” will generate millions of dollars in economic activity across the state, state officials said.

For example, the production will require 3,000 hotel rooms in Bethpage and Plainview, In addition, the production is using several Long Island-based businesses for purchasing food and equipment, including spending about $32,000 for beverages from U.S. Coffee in Hicksville, $19,000 for auto parts from Quick Auto Parts in Hicksville, and $16,000 for food from Bagelboss in Hicksville.

The definition of STOP in the driving world is " the complete cessation of movement".Read More Sound like many people think STOP signs mean 1. Slow To Observe Police or 2. Slightly Touch On (brake) pedal. Time to go to traffic school online at www.oltep.com. Relearn what you forgot from Driver's Ed. Stay Safe
A June 7, 2013 at 11:52 pm
Stop means stop. Just like stop signs, where it seems like the local definition is to slow down toRead More 30 mph. You STOP, and look. Then go. I have seen kids having a tough time crossing Jamaica Ave because of this twisted definition of STOP. If anything, this is a good way to relearn what should of been taught in drivers ed. When I moved to Plainview, people at a stop sign would signal the driver that got there first to go. Now it's a race to the stop sign and fly by it to avoid having the other guy go first.
