Plainview Burger King Closes Doors

TODAY's 5: Local institution shuts down Sunday. Cause unclear at the moment.

One of Plainview's two Burger King restaurants, a Plainview fast-food institution on our eastern side of Old Country Road, shut its doors Sunday.

The at 1082 Old Country Road near the was open Saturday but closed on Sunday. A sign on the door made mention of an issue with its lease. It is not clear if the closing is temporary. We are seeking answers today from the corporation.

While every other place to eat in Plainview is always crowded at lunchtime, this BK is almost empty. Always plenty of seats. Not having the cashflow to pay could be the cause of their "lease problem."

Maybe we didn't really need two Burger Kings on the same one mile stretch of Old Country Rd.
Evan Hoffman April 30, 2012 at 12:58 PM
I know my 2 boys and all of their friends will really miss their Wednesday dinner and playdate there.

A little research would really go a long way. It HAS NOT been there for decades. In the Mid-Late 90's it was a Pizza Hut (With full salad-bar), before being completely knocked down and replaced with a brand new building (This Burger King)

Previous to pizza hut it was a Hardees went there for lunch from jfk in the early 70's
Joe Dowd (Editor) April 30, 2012 at 05:34 PM
Plainview lifer.... that's what I remembered. a Hardees! I was there to in the early '70s. Wasn't there also an IHOP nearby back then? I also remember the Jack in the Box near South Oyster Bay Road. Miss that place.

By the way... Just heard back from Burger King corporate, who says they can only confirm the place has closed. Nothing more. Still working. If there are BK workers who want to contact me, send me a line.

Yes IHOP was right next door and Jack In THe Box was were we went for breakfast at 2am on sat nights lol
Joe Dowd (Editor) April 30, 2012 at 05:48 PM
I remember those "breakfasts." They sold these really greasy tacos. Jumbo Jack, Rings, fries. Eat those and you could feel normal again.

Great memories take care for now Joe
Tom April 30, 2012 at 07:37 PM
I miss IHOP. We used to go there at least a couple of Sundays each month.

Not surprised this BK is closing. I once went there during the middle of winter. The heat was broken and the place was a complete mess. McDonalds on Old Country seems to be doing something right. I even read recently that Wendy's overtook Burger King as the nation's number 2 hamburger chain.
Shari April 30, 2012 at 07:57 PM
In between Hardees and Pizza Hut it was a Roy Rogers. Best roast beef sandwiches and chocolate shakes!

Guess it will join the list of abandoned lots......Ihop, the flower nursery with the great Fig tree collection, the story of our economic times.

We were at Burger King Saturday night and a staff member said they were closing because the landlord doubled the rent. I imagine we can look forward to two empty lots now-- iHOP and Burger King side by side.

Signs that they were closing up shop began a few weeks ago when it became apparent that they were no longer maintaining their landscaping. Everything was overgrown. This place was typically pretty empty, even during lunch and dinner hours. The big draw for a lot of young families (mine included) was the play area, which was always kept clean. My kids are going to miss it. But here's looking to another vacant lot and eye sore in Plainview.
Simba April 30, 2012 at 08:41 PM
Hey maybe Charles Wang can build an Apartment complex there..
Maureen Ardiff Cooke April 30, 2012 at 09:47 PM
They took down the signs this afternoon. Maybe an Applebees type of place could buy & build on both lots. Wouldn't that be nice?
Oscar t harris April 30, 2012 at 10:19 PM
Would love it id they put a new american style restaurant there. No fast food garbage. The plainview diner is terrible and only other option is main event. We need more full size restaurants in plainview so i dont have to run to syosset everytime.
Tom April 30, 2012 at 11:15 PM
That would be great!
George April 30, 2012 at 11:21 PM
I agree, two Burger Kings was "two" much...now lets get a Wendy's!!!!!!!
Jdogg May 01, 2012 at 01:56 PM
what we need in its place is a good frozen yogurt place. apparently you can't have too many of those.
Gerard May 02, 2012 at 02:44 AM
Another Dunkin Donuts would be perfect!! Cant have enough of those either!!
LouMclovin J Stabile May 03, 2012 at 11:16 PM
I agree. Can we please get Ihop back? They lied to us :-( "under construction". Then BAM. Closed!
BB May 06, 2012 at 03:20 PM
I know a dunkin donuts serving frozen yogurt inside another medical office
HJM May 09, 2012 at 11:23 PM
Applebees, Outback. Great idea. How do we make it happen?
SueRH May 10, 2012 at 04:08 PM
Since the landlord doubled the rent, maybe some offered to buy the lot from him and possibly the iHop lot next door. An Applebees or Fridays would be great! No more banks or medical buildings!
Karen Axel-Knispel July 13, 2013 at 08:59 AM
its going to be a Panera Bread-- it is even on there menus at other locations Plainview coming soon-- I was also told by sonic that they tried to get in there but the parking the lot was not big enough for them
Karen Axel-Knispel July 13, 2013 at 09:01 AM
@ Chris Smith if you go even further back it was a Hardees
Karen Axel-Knispel July 13, 2013 at 09:02 AM
oh yea and it was even a Roy Rogers at one point
