Plainview Man to Run Whitman Mall Ops

Facilities director will oversee mall's daily operations.

A Plainview man has been named operations director for Walt Whitman Mall.

Robert D. Berger, Jr. brings 13 years of facilities expertise to his new role of overseeing the daily operations functions of  the Huntington Station mall, where he also will be responsible for special projects, budgeting, vendor relations and planning for the department.  As part of his new role, he will also be responsible for providing both technical and operational counsel. 

“I am thrilled to join the management team at Walt Whitman Mall, a premier property in Simon’s portfolio,” Berger said.  “The center is very attractive from an operations perspective and I look forward to utilizing my experience and technical knowledge to build on the success already achieved at Walt Whitman Mall.”

Berger served in the United States Marine Corps from 1994 to 1998. He was previously president and owner of City Air Conditioning and Heating Corp, where he bid on and contracted over $500,000 in new construction and renovations of HVAC systems, securing business from both the residential and commercial sectors.

Before that, he was director of facilities at Macy’s East in New York.  His background also includes time with Macy’s East as area director for Long Island and regional engineer in the Baltimore/Washington area as well as chief engineer at Service Resources, Inc. in Marietta, Ga.

The Whitman mall is owned by Simon Property Group.
