Restaurant Review: The Main Event

Family-owned sports bar and restaurant in Plainview offers a wide selection of dishes and a lively happy hour.

Whether you are looking for a family night out, a spot for your next date, or planning a private party, in Plainview can cater to your needs. The restaurant is conveniently located at 799 Old Country Road, and strikes most as a regular bar from the outside. As a family-owned and operated establishment, The Main Event has grown to be one of Plainview's most desirable eateries.

Upon entering, you see the large center bar is surrounded by two casual yet elegant dining rooms, offering a combination of both small and large tables, and booths to accommodate parties of any size. The dark wood paneling and abundance of over 40 flat screen televisions gives The Main Event a laid back, sports bar feel throughout.

A full service bar offers both domestic and imported beers, along with specialty cocktails like their famous martinis. On most nights, especially Fridays, customers can find a packed bar area during happy hour and even later into the night. The Main Event is a great place to unwind after work, or hang out and watch your team on the big screen. During football season, various specials run for Sunday and Monday games.

The restaurant is staffed to tend to each customer promptly, even when every table is seated. Drink orders are taken quickly, and just enough time is allowed to look over the extensive menu options.

The Main Event's "Starting Line-Up," as they call their appetizers, includes everything from Baked Jumbo Lump Crabcakes ($13.00), to Extreme Nachos (with beef $11.95, with chicken $13.50), to Beer Battered Buffalo Shrimp ($10.95), all served with generous portions fit to split.

A variety of entrees are offered to adhere to any budget. The Monterey Jack Chicken dish ($15.95) is filling enough to bring some home, with two large chicken pieces smothered in Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheeses served with your choice of a house or Caesar salad and one of many sides. The New Yorker ($17.95), a tender 12 oz. steak, is also served with your choice of a salad and side. The Chicken Ceasar Wrap ($12.50) is great for lunch or dinner, and is a resourceful alternative for those trying not to spend.

Garlic mashed potatoes, sweet potato fries, sautéed onions or spinach, and julienne vegetables are just some of the side dishes available to accompany your entree. For desserts, Creamy Cheese Cake ($5.00) and Homemade Apple Pie ($4.50) can make for a perfect end to your meal.
