The Main Event Proves to be More Than Your Average Sports Bar

Family owners are pleased with how their business has grown as it enters ninth year.

In 2002, the Constantatos family began the newest chapter of their hospitality career, Plainview's own sports bar and restaurant, . With a lifetime of experience in the restaurant business, the Constantatos knew just what it would take to build a successful dining establishment and keep customers coming back.

The Main Event serves up both lunch and dinner, along with an assortment of appetizers and specialty cocktails from the bar. The diverse menu consists of their popular wings, steaks and burgers, wraps and original seafood platters.

Mike Constantatos, one of three owners at The Main Event, started a wholesale seafood business 18 years ago which is now operated out of the Plainview restaurant location.

"Our seafood business definitely helps our restaurant, we have sushi quality seafood," Constantatos said. "We sell a lot of fish, lobsters, clams and oysters. We try to get a new fish every week for dinner."

A raw bar used to take up half of the restaurant's current dining area, but in recent years remodeling has transformed the restaurant to accommodate its patrons in several ways, according to Constantatos. The first extension made was in the back of the restaurant, where a new refrigeration system was installed to benefit their seafood distribution. The outdoor patio was converted into an additional dining room, and the parking lot outside was remodeled and now wraps around the entire building.

"The biggest thing we do is upkeep with the restaurant, and our menu," Constantatos said. "We keep up with painting the outside, and try to maintain the inside and all of our equipment. "

Monday through Friday, The Main Event offers various lunch and dinner specials at a fixed price. "We always try to keep a different variety for our customers," Constantatos said of their specials. Happy Hour is also every weekday from 3:30-7:30 pm, where all beers and drinks are discounted $1.

Plainview and the local community have contributed greatly to the restaurant, and many loyal customers frequent the location several times a week. The Main Event gives back to the community as well, sponsoring many youth league athletic teams, along with adult flag football and softball teams.

The Main Event is located at 799 Old Country Road, slightly west of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. The dress code is very casual, and all major credit cards are accepted.
