Where Was the Redfern Shop?

Guess where this place was in Port Jefferson.

The Redfern Shop is no more in Port Jefferson. This photo is from a postcard that is postmarked January 10, 1928 and depicts a bygone era in the village. Although the streets are still there, the storefronts have changed.

Once, this store was "the leading women’s apparel shop of Suffolk County."

Can you guess where the Redfern Shop once stood in Port Jefferson? Did you ever shop there or know a little bit of its history? Tell us in the comments.

The Redfern shop was the building that houses Newbridge Realty, across from the old tax building which will now be the LI Music Hall of Fame. As far as I know the Redfern Shop was a dress store.

You all have it correct where the Redfern Shop was in PJ Village (southeast corner of Main and East Main), but who remembers the location they moved to before going out of business? What store is there now?

They were over where Lavender Fields is now. Prior to going out of business they were in the Port Jeff Plaza, I think where the Liqour store is now. Wonderful peole worked there.

Corner of Main and East Main then moved to PJ Plaza before closing for good. Nicest people! They always provided the gown, free of charge, to the Port Jefferson High School extravaganza Gym Night. That was when PJ High was a centralized school drawing students from many districts and there was a huge population at the school. The School was the center of a lot of social life for the communities. The Toal family was wonderful. They lived just up Prospect Street from the shop.
