Free Holiday Concert to Benefit Sandy Victims

Long Island Philharmonic to offer free "Holiday Spectacular;" Donations will benefit distribution to those in need.

Nassau County is offering a free musical opportunity that will serve to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced that the Long Island Philharmonic will present Nassau County’s “Holiday Spectacular” concert on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Butler Building at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Garden City. The two-hour concert will begin at 7 p.m.

Admission is free, but tickets are required. All attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food items which will be collected by Island Harvest and distributed to those affected by the fierce superstorm that caused widespread damage across the region.

Free tickets are available at all Bethpage Federal Credit Union branches, as well as at the Administration Building at Eisenhower Park. Bethpage Federal has offices in Bethpage, Massapequa, Glen Cove, Farmingdale and other locations around Nassau County.

The concert is co-sponsored by Nassau County Parks, and Bethpage Federal Credit Union, with no cost to taxpayers, Mangaon said.

The Long Island Philharmonic was founded in 1979 by folk singer Harry Chapin in collaboration with Maestro Christopher Keene and several area business leaders. Since then, the orchestra has provided cultural and educational benefits of the highest level to the residents of Long Island and the surrounding boroughs.

Considered young by American orchestra standards, the Philharmonic, led by its four music directors, has made significant strides in expanding its programs and offering a musical product of the highest caliber, Mangano's office said.

Everyone, please write Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray at katemurray@tohmail.org and ask her to donate 75% of the General Services Postage budget (of $2.4 million dollars) to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy, or JUST FORWARD THIS message to katemurray@tohmail.org.
Kate Murray currently sends out about 25 mailings per year. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzq67LIQ3dw for more information about Kate's mailings. Ask her to give up some of her mailings to help the residents of the Town of Hempstead that were devastated by Hurricane Sandy. Instead of cutting down trees to make paper for mailings, the Town of Hempstead should use that wood to make houses for the people that lost theirs. Please forward this message to everyone you know. Thanks, Felix Procacci

Ask her to ask State Reps to rescind the outrageous and inappropriately LARGE "Clergy" exemption on PRIVATE ( not church ) property. 608 Nassau County homeowners get exemptions under NYS Real Property Law 460. Many pay NO SCHOOL TAXES as N.C. inflates the $1500 exemption by the use of the 0.25% equalization rate.

The definition of STOP in the driving world is " the complete cessation of movement".Read More Sound like many people think STOP signs mean 1. Slow To Observe Police or 2. Slightly Touch On (brake) pedal. Time to go to traffic school online at www.oltep.com. Relearn what you forgot from Driver's Ed. Stay Safe

Stop means stop. Just like stop signs, where it seems like the local definition is to slow down toRead More 30 mph. You STOP, and look. Then go. I have seen kids having a tough time crossing Jamaica Ave because of this twisted definition of STOP. If anything, this is a good way to relearn what should of been taught in drivers ed. When I moved to Plainview, people at a stop sign would signal the driver that got there first to go. Now it's a race to the stop sign and fly by it to avoid having the other guy go first.
