Memorial Day Holiday Closings

Plainview's annual parade will shut down Old Country Road Monday morning; most retail business are open.

Today is Memorial Day, a national holiday where the nation's war dead are remembered in solomn ceremonies all over the nation.

Today:

All federal, state and local government offices are closed. Emergency workers are on duty; garbage and recycling pick-up will be delayed by one day this week.

Financial institutions, including banks and the stock exchanges, are closed. The ATM's work.

There is no postal delivery.

Parks:

All parks are open on Memorial Day. They'll operate on normal hours, closing at dusk. State parks, such as Jones Beach and , along with county parks, like Eisenhower, are open as well.

Businesses and shopping:

Most retail businesses, including drug stores and supermarkets are open all day, and many have sales and specials. A few may close early.

Parade:

The annual Plainview Memorial Day Parade along Old Country Road and proceeding to the Plainview-Old Bethpage Park, a parade route of 1.83 miles, kicks off at 9:30 a.m. Certain cross roads will be closed along the route at various times. Unless you're attending the parade, the best alternative east-west route across town is the Jamaica Avenue-Southern Parkway passage between Central Park Road and South Oyster Bay Road.
