Plainview Lags in Restoration of Power

LIPA reports 93 percent of Long Island homes regain service.

Plainview continues to lag the rest of the Town of Oyster Bay in the restoration of power lost in last weekend's storm.

As of Saturday morning, the Long Island Power Authority was listing 1,190 customers as out of service, while other communities, such as Hicksville with 764, were closer to full restoration.

Or, to put it another way, of the 7,028 outages in the town, 1,190 are in Plainview.

In all cases, the status of repair is listed as "pending dispatch."

After more than two and a half days without powert, they thought they knew why we did't have power. Those inspecting our lines got a call that someone was coming to fix our problem and to meet them at the pole. All they needed to do was turn a switch back on. Someone did show up, but he wasn't authorized to do the work. That took another 18 hours. We cleaned and stocked the fridge. About 18 hours after that, at 5 in the morning we lost it again. Now we weren't a priority. More than a day and a half later, after clearing a couple of branches, at 9 PM Friday, we finally had power back.
A special thanks to the fire department rescue truck who was in front of my house but would't lend me power for five minutes to pump the water out of my basement. What were they driving around for? We needed a bit of "rescuing". We had the pumps but no power. Now we need new carpeting and a bit of sheetrock as a result.

The definition of STOP in the driving world is " the complete cessation of movement".Read More Sound like many people think STOP signs mean 1. Slow To Observe Police or 2. Slightly Touch On (brake) pedal. Time to go to traffic school online at www.oltep.com. Relearn what you forgot from Driver's Ed. Stay Safe

Stop means stop. Just like stop signs, where it seems like the local definition is to slow down toRead More 30 mph. You STOP, and look. Then go. I have seen kids having a tough time crossing Jamaica Ave because of this twisted definition of STOP. If anything, this is a good way to relearn what should of been taught in drivers ed. When I moved to Plainview, people at a stop sign would signal the driver that got there first to go. Now it's a race to the stop sign and fly by it to avoid having the other guy go first.
