Plainview Patch Turns 2 Today

Thursday is our second anniversary as Plainview's online news source.

Plainview Patch turns 2 today.

How about that, Plainview?

When Patch was just starting out on Long Island, few had heard our name or understood our mission. We got all sorts of questions, versions of "you're from where?" and "you're with who?'

That's all changed.

Patch has been here through crippling snowstorms and the full range of breaking news. We've also witnessed and were privileged to document the myriad acts of kindness and community spirit that makes Plainview a special place. Through triumphs and our community stood together and came back strong. Not all communities do.

I say that not as a journalist, but as a Son of Plainview. Many of you know I grew up here. Patch brought me back to the boyhood home I love and missed so dearly for so many years.

As we enter our third year you, our readers, will be the key to making Patch succeed. We need you. Help celebrate our birthday by thinking of Patch as a daily information necessity

The definition of STOP in the driving world is " the complete cessation of movement".Read More Sound like many people think STOP signs mean 1. Slow To Observe Police or 2. Slightly Touch On (brake) pedal. Time to go to traffic school online at www.oltep.com. Relearn what you forgot from Driver's Ed. Stay Safe

Stop means stop. Just like stop signs, where it seems like the local definition is to slow down toRead More 30 mph. You STOP, and look. Then go. I have seen kids having a tough time crossing Jamaica Ave because of this twisted definition of STOP. If anything, this is a good way to relearn what should of been taught in drivers ed. When I moved to Plainview, people at a stop sign would signal the driver that got there first to go. Now it's a race to the stop sign and fly by it to avoid having the other guy go first.
