Plan Ahead for the Next Holiday Weekend

With school out and this being the middle of the holiday week, there are no events scheduled today in Plainview Patch. So here are some ideas:

1 Head to Manhattan: says it will be close to normal today after two days of horrific service disruptions. From Hicksville, the ride to Penn Station is about 45 minutes, if all goes well.

2. Go shopping: Local merchants did a great job clearing most parking lots at area shopping centers. Big sales are on everywhere, including which is holding a 50 percent-off sale on Christmas merchandise.

3. Stock up: You could go grocery shopping today without the threat of a weather catastrophy. in Morton Village is a good option.

4. College Football: It's bowl season, and a host of big ones will be on TV Friday night and all day Saturday. Plan a tailgate party and hold it in the comfort of your livingroom.

5. Plan New Year's Eve: Why not party like it's, well, 2011? Organize a gathering at your home with friends and avoid a pricy restaurant and loud people. Place an order with caterers; they've got great cold cuts and salads. Local liquor stores will be packed on Friday; avoid the rush today at  or
