Watch Out: Heavy Rain on the Way

Weather service issues watch for flash flooding.

A flash flood watch is in effect for the Plainview area starting at noon Monday and continuing through Tuesday morning.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 8 p.m., are in the forecast. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall.

Heavy rainfall rates in excess of one inch per hour will be capable of producing urban flooding as well as flooding of fast responding rivers and streams.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. 

The warning kicks off what looks to be a stormy week, with rain forecast through Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Long Island Power Authority said it has restored power to all but 34 Plainview customers who lost service to Tropical Storm Irene last week. It said that it expects to have everyone restored by 5:30 Monday. On its website, the utility thanks its customers for showing patience and says that its regular customer service offices will be open starting Tuesday They were closed all last week.
