Update: Widespread Power Outages Hit Plainview

LIPA reports 10,000 customers impacted in Town of Oyster Bay as high winds rip through region overnight.

Update, 11:45 a.m.: LIPA reports 4,900 outages in Oyster Bay, including 167 in Plainview.

Severe weather overnight knocked out power to much of Long Island, with the Town of Oyster Bay seeing its effects in the form of widespread power outages.

The Long Island Power Authority reports more than 10,000 customers were without power townwide as of 8:00 a.m. Thursday, including 1,100 in Plainview and another 267 in Hicksville.

Nassau County Police reported at 8:15 a.m. that South Broadway in Hicksville was closed in both directions at Engineers Drive due to a leaning telephone pole with wires hanging. The roadway was reopened by 11:42 a.m.

The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 mph, which could bring down tree limbs or whole trees.

A high wind advisory is in effect for northern Nassau County through 6 p.m. Thursday.
