Eagle Scout's Project Assists Elderly and Infirm

Produce from the raised gardens helps Island Harvest.

Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs attended the Eagle Court of Honor for Syosset's Daniel M. Petschauer, held Saturday, Nov. 30 at Faith Lutheran Church in Syosset.

Daniels's project was to build, with the help of family and friends, three raised bed gardens at The Farm at Oyster Bay, located in Oyster Bay Cove.

By raising the gardens, the project helped people with limited mobility, such as the disabled and the elderly, to garden with more ease.

Once the vegetables were ripe the food was donated to Island Harvest to feed the hungry.

"Daniel is a very special young man whose project helped so many, including the Farm itself, the disabled, the elderly and those in need of good, healthy food," said Jacobs, D-Woodbury. "As always, I am in awe of the devotion of these young men and Daniel is a prime example of the strong set of values demonstrated by Eagle Scouts."
