Plainview JFK to Pay Tribute to Beloved Teacher

Teachers and students will take part in memorial basketball event Wednesday to honor Michael Secko.

More than 80 Plainview JFK students, teachers and faculty members will take part Tuesday in its first student-staff memorial basketball event in honor of a beloved teacher.

Michael Secko, a JFK High School business teacher, died during the 2012-2013 school year. Mr. Secko taught at JFK for more than 10 years and was a role model and adviser to students involved in the school’s marketing and business development clubs, including DECA and the Wall Street Investor Club.

Mr. Secko’s students, colleagues and friends will honor his memory before the game with a moment of silence and a small tribute, and all funds raised from the event will go towards the Michael Secko Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund provide scholarships to Plainview-Old Bethpage students looking to pursue a career in business.

Wednesday's event runs from 2:30–5 p.m. at the high school on Kennedy Drive.

Plainview JFK students and staff previously dedicated the school’s student store in his honor and unveiled a plaque recognizing his impact on the community.
