'Plainview's Closet' Opens its Heart to Community

A grass roots effort has collected free clothing, shoes, for anyone in need, no questions asked.

What started as a simple idea has grown into an astounding grass-roots effort to offer free clothing to those in need in the Plainview community.

"Plainview's Closet" is a new program where gently used children's clothing, ranging from infant to teen, is gathered for free distribution to anyone who may need it, said Lisa Baldel Fogelson who, with co-founder Ali Isaacs Kusinitz organized a team of volunteers to bring the project to fruition.

The organizers and volunteers are working with the Manetto Hill Jewish Center, which has donated the space for the event.

Some have called it a "mitzvah." Rabbi David Senter described it as "really amazing."

The first "unsale" is Veterans Day week and the organizers are inviting anyone who needs fresh clothing for their children to come and "un'shop."

Appointments are private and discreet with no questions asked.

The group is still offering private, discreet appointments today, (Monday, Nov. 11) and Tuesday Nov. 12. The hours both days are 10 a.m.- 3 p.m.

Then, on Wednesday, the free clothing and shoes will be open to the community, to anyone who needs them.

To schedule your appointment email plainviewscloset@gmail.com (if you have clothing to contribute, please email the same address)

The group is looking for winter coats, hats, boots and new, in-package underwear and socks and buckets to store the items. All children's size clothing are needed.
