Veterans Day 2013: What Open, Closed Monday

Federal holiday honoring all veterans is observed today; schools, government offices closed.

Monday is Veterans Day, where the nation honors all those who served in the United States Armed Forces.

All federal, state and local government offices will be closed today.

All local schools are closed today, including Plainview's, along with schools across the state.

Banks are closed, but the stock exchanges are open.

Post offices are closed and there will be no delivery, except for Express Mail.

In the Town of Oyster Bay, there will be no town sanitation or S.O.R.T. recycling collection on Monday. Residents who normally receive service on Monday will have a special pickup on Tuesday, Nov. 12; Tuesday customers will receive sanitation and S.O.R.T collection on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
While town offices will be closed Monday, all park facilities will be open.

Most retail businesses are open and many have sales today.

The Long Island Rail Road and MTA subways and buses are running on a normal weekday schedule. Monday marks the addition of several new trains on the LIRR. See the details here.
