Lou Imbroto Asks for Your Support Tomorrow on Election Day!

As election day approaches, please allow me the opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Lou Imbroto and I’m your candidate for the Nassau County Legislature in the 16th District.

As a lifelong Plainview resident, I’ve grown frustrated as I’ve seen my friends, family and those I grew up with move away from Long Island in search of better job opportunities or a more affordable quality of life.

Out of control property taxes and a lack of high quality jobs are driving away thousands off Long Island each year.  We are losing our young people, whose parents made enormous sacrifices to educate them only to see them forced to move when that education is complete.  We are losing our senior citizens, the ones who built Long Island and made it the wonderful place we enjoy, but who can no longer afford to stay in their own homes.  Most tellingly, we are losing our middle class, once the backbone of Long Island and the American dream.

How did it come to this?

Years of reckless spending have left Nassau Residents with some of the highest property taxes in the country.  Out of control property taxes are driving away businesses, driving away jobs, and driving away the middle class.

I'm running to provide an alternative.  Under my opponent's leadership, property taxes rose 42.3%, county spending increased by $1.4 billion, and $2.3 billion was added to the county debt.  On top of that, my opponent passed a new home energy tax on heating oil, natural gas and electricity, and approved a four year plan to raise property taxes an additional 16%.  This is precisely the wrong path for Nassau County.

When Ed Mangano was elected County Executive in 2009, he went to work eliminating wasteful spending and lowering county taxes.  He reduced county spending by $290 million dollars, repealed the home energy tax, and delivered four consecutive budgets without a tax increase.

We are starting in the right direction, but our work is just beginning.  We must reform our broken assessment system, which results in errors and forces our homeowners to bear the burden of filing a grievance.  We must attract responsible development to Nassau County to develop our tax base, create jobs, and sustain vibrant communities that we can all enjoy.  And we must spend wisely, mindful of the fact that public dollars are dollars collected from taxpayers who can scarcely afford the burden.

As your legislator, I will bring a fresh perspective to county government.  I will take a hands-on approach to the budget, looking for ways to eliminate wasteful spending and run government more efficiently, so you can keep your hard-earned money in your pocket.

I pledge to do everything in my power to hold the line on property taxes and to keep our seniors, young people and middle class families here on Long Island.

I truly believe that Long Island’s best days lie ahead of us, as long as we all work together toward a better future.  I promise to fight to strengthen our middle class so we can restore Long Island to greatness.  I hope you will give me the opportunity to fulfill that promise by electing me to serve as your legislator.

Thank you for your support.
