Two Nassau Police officers were injured as they attempted to arrest a man and a woman outside a Bethpage bar early Saturday.
Nassau detectives said the officers responded just after 3 a.m. to a report of a fight at the Fife and Drum Bar on North Wantagh Avenue. Outside, they were approached by a man and a woman.
Anthony Pizaro, 23, of 287 Clearmeadow Drive, East Meadow. and Michelle Chalen, 21, of 12 South Peach St., Bethpage, became irate and began fighting with the officers when they were told they could not re-enter the bar, police said.
One officer sprained his wrist attempting to handcuff Pizaro; the second officer injured his knee when he came to assist, police said.
Chalen refused to follow orders from officers at the scene, continually interfering with the investigation and Pizaro's arrest. As officers attempted to place Chalen under arrest, she kicked and struggled with them, police said.
Both injured officers were taken to area hospital for treatment.
Both defendants are charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
Pizaro is also charged with two counts of second-degree assault, a felony.
They will be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
