7 Fire Companies Battle Hicksville Blaze

100 firefighters called to stop fire at Advanced Auto Service on Old Country Road.

More than 100 firefighters from various Long Island companies were needed to stop a major fire Sunday at the Advanced Auto Service store in Hicksville, authorities said.

The Nassau County Police Arson Bomb Squad is investigating a fire that broke out about 7:30 p.m. at 178 Old Country Road and caused extensive damage to the business.

More than 100 firefighters from Hicksville and six other surrounding companies responded to the blaze, just east of the intersection with Newbridge Road. One unidentified fire chief was treated at a local hospital for an ankle injury, detectives said.

Detectives have determined the fire started in the rear of the building. The cause is undetermined but does not appear to be suspicious at this time, police said. 

The investigation is ongoing.
