Cops: Pet Sitter Faces New Charges: Theft While Babysitting

Lauren Azie, the pet sitter accused of staging a burglary in Plainview in November, now faces grand larceny counts in a separate incident.

A 23-year-old Plainview woman, already facing charges of staging a burglary while employed as a pet sitter, now faces new charges after police say she stole from her client's home while babysitting.

Nassau County detectives charged , 23, of 23 Theodore Drive in Plainview, with grand larceny in connection with a three-week spree of theft from a Plainview victim's home.

Between Oct. 24 and Nov. 18, Azie is accused of stealing assorted jewelry and an undetermined amount of cash while she was employed as a babysitter at another person's home in Plainview.

Azie was arrested at her home Wednesday afternoon in Plainview where she is out on bail.

Azie was accused earlier this month with staging a burglary in her Plainview customer's home, ripping him off for about $6,000 in computers, jewelry and collectibles, Nassau Police detectives said. In that case, Azie sold some of the proceeds to a Hicksville pawn shop, which led to her arrest.

The property belonged to a 41-year-old Plainview man for whom Azie worked as a pet sitter between Oct. 24 and Nov. 2, police said. On Nov. 2, Azie staged a burglary at the victim's home, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case or similar cases to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous, police said.

Azie will be arraigned on the new charges Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
