Boy, 3, Badly Hurt in Hicksville Crash

12-year-old, woman, also hurt at Broadway and Old Country Road.

A 3-year-old boy was badly hurt Sunday when the child was thrown from a vehicle in a violent collision in Hicksville.

A woman driving one of the vehicles and a 12-year-old child also suffered non-life threatening injuries; all three are being treated at an area hospital.

Nassau detectives are investigating the two-vehicle crash that took place just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the busy intersection of Old Country Road and Broadway. Members of the homicide squad said a 47-year-old man driving a 1999 General Motors pickup truck was westbound on Old Country Road when he collided with a 2007 Nissan driven by the woman.

The 42-year-old woman, with the two children in her car, was eastbound and attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Broadway (Route 107) when the collision occurred.

The toddler was thrown from the car and suffered head trauma, police said and eyewitnesses said. The boy was being treated at a local hospital as of 4 a.m. Monday, a police spokeswoman said. The child's condition was not available.

The 12-year-old was in the rear seat and suffered cuts to his head and face. The woman suffered minor injuries.

The male driver was uninjured. Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety checks. There appears to be no criminality at this time, police said, but the investigation is continuing. None of the victims were identified.

Old Country Road was closed for more than four hours during the investigation. Nassau's homicide squad led the investigation, which is routine in serious motor vehicle crashes, police said.
