3 a.m. UPDATE: Brook Path Home Suffers Heavy Fire Damage

Plainview firefighters put down difficult blaze in home late Tuesday.

were on the scene of a house fire overnight that heavily damaged a Brook Path home.

Preliminary reports from the scene indicated the fire was reported about 11 p.m. and brought under control shortly before midnight, with the assistance of 75 firefighters, according to Nassau Police. The house is located on a short side street is about two blocks south of Southern Parkway and just west of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway.

Fire commanders on the scene reported seeing flames shooting through the roof of the one-and-a-half story home shortly after arrival. Nassau Police said the fire appeared to start in the basement.

The home was apparently occupied at the time of the fire but all the occupants managed to escape the flames, firefighters said. Two firefighters were reported injured. They were treated at the scene for minor injuries and did not require hospitalization, firefighters said early Wednesday morning.

Plainview firefighters, under the command of , responded in force to the fire. Firefighters from Hicksville, Syosset, Farmingdale and Bethpage also assisted at the scene.

Stop means stop. Just like stop signs, where it seems like the local definition is to slow down toRead More 30 mph. You STOP, and look. Then go. I have seen kids having a tough time crossing Jamaica Ave because of this twisted definition of STOP. If anything, this is a good way to relearn what should of been taught in drivers ed. When I moved to Plainview, people at a stop sign would signal the driver that got there first to go. Now it's a race to the stop sign and fly by it to avoid having the other guy go first.
